Registered Players :
To play in IPL 2025, 1,574 players are registered for the upcoming mega auction 2k25.
- where 1,165 are Indian Players only.🙂
- And 409 overseas players only. 🙂

- 320 Capped Players (with national team experience)
- 30 Players from Associate Nations

Retained Players and Players Retention Rules :
Before this mega auction, IPL franchises already retained a total of 46 players with a total expense of ₹558.5 crore.
- Every team has ₹120 crore auction purse, and all retention costs are deducted from the total of ₹120 crore auction purse.
- Every franchise/team can retain up to five capped players (Indian or Overseas✈️ ) and two uncapped Indian players, who are each valued at ₹4 crore.

- Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Virat Kohli (₹21 crore), Rajat Patidar (₹11 crore)
Here’s an interesting thing in this auction Mumbai Indians (MI) will enter with only ₹45 crore remaining.
Auction Key Rules: Player Retention and RTM (Right to Match) :
- What is the RTM?
Right to Match is called RTM, this is a major feature of the IPL auction, which allows franchisees to reacquire the released player by giving the highest bid than another franchise. There is an update for the RTM rule:
- Teams that do not have any retained players are granted to use six RTM cards for the auction.
- Teams with six retained players can’t use the RTM cards.
Also, for the 2025 auction, a final bid option has been instructed for the RTM process.
for Example:
- if Mumbai Indians release Rohit Sharma or Chennai Super Kings release MS Dhoni and Royal Challengers Bengaluru bid ₹20 crores for him, MI can use their RTM card.
- But now, RCB can make a final offer above MI’s match. if Bengaluru bids ₹25 crore then MI have to match this bid to retain Rohit Sharma.
- Overall RCB wants an amount to release Rohit Sharma for MI. (this is the new rule of RTM)
Retained Player’s Salary Slabs for IPL 2025 :
Every franchise follows a structured salary system for all retained players. The five capped retained players’ salaries are as follows 👇:
- Capped Retained Player 1: ₹18 crore
- Capped Retained Player 2: ₹14 crore
- Capped Retained Player 3: ₹11 crore
- Capped Retained Player 4: ₹8 crore
- Capped Retained Player 5: ₹4 crore
This strategy salary slab was created to manage the team finances efficiently.

This IPL Mega auction will be maintained on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking the second consecutive overseas. The previous year, Dubai hosted the IPL auction, continuing a movement in the ICC to widen IPL’s international presence.
